A Message from
Diamond Coast Race Organisers
Dear Entrants and Prospective Entrants
The 2nd Edition of The Diamond Coast Race is here!
The Diamond Coast Race is a Race from Port Owen, South Africa to Lüderitz, Namibia. The sailing distance is approximately 400nm.
In order to compete, Yachts are required to comply with local law, which requires every Yacht to have a SAMSA Registration to go foreign and a minimum of a Yachtmaster Offshore Skippers Ticket. If you require advice in this regard, please contact the organisers.
This event has the added challenge of delivering your Yachts back. A matter of syncing into a weather window and either doing it non-stop or making a few stops en route back to South Africa, making an adventure out of it – you decide. We will likely chat more on this at the briefing and at Lüderitz as often Yachts like to meet up at these stops.
REGISTERED TO GO FOREIGN
Your vessel is required to be registered to go foreign (The SAS SA number registration does not comply for this purpose) This can be done with SAMSA. Please ask at your yacht club if you need advice. This takes time to sort out. This is a legal process and is out of the hands of the organisers.
A reminder to those that have the required registration to go foreign, to ensure you have an up to date LGSC.
CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION
It remains the skipper’s responsibility to handle all Customs and Immigration processes and issues regarding clearing out/in and all related compliance, however where possible, the organiser will try and advise and streamline.
LUDERITZ
All Entrants will be required to anchor at Lüderitz. No Exceptions. There are limited facilities ashore. The event will make arrangements for a limited Ferry Service.
It is a Harbour requirement that there shall be a person aboard at all times when under anchor. Please ensure that you have a PROPER anchor with a PROPER CHAIN and Warp. At times, the winds can reach 40 knots in the anchorage and therefore adequate anchoring equipment is a requirement. It is a Requirement of Lüderitz that there shall be a competent person aboard at all times while under anchor in the anchorage.
If you have any more questions, please contact us directly, we are here to help.
With best wishes from the Diamond Coast Race Committee.
